Story creates digital ‘handraising’ campaign for Christmas
26 November 2009
Mission agency Story has created a website ihave.org.uk which holds a wish-list of items that a growing number of grassroots charities and local organisations need and cannot afford this Christmas. The website launches today.
Individuals and businesses visiting the site will be able to see the wishes of many local Charities and pledge any items they have and no longer need. It’s about handraising, not fundraising. Allowing people to give to charity by putting their hand in the air, not in their pockets.
A complete list of wishes is available to view on the site, with wishes as wide ranging as reconditioned digital cameras, illustrations, kitten food and children’s gym equipment. Interestingly, not all the wishes are for tangible items. Some ask for practical help in the form of time, from either photographers, media owners or the creative community.
Story contacted a list of charities, principally through their existing connections with organisations such as Oxfam, Bfriends, Contact the Elderly and Fresh Start, but they were also put in touch with a range of homeless and adult literacy projects through CLAN, Edinburgh’s City Literacy and Numeracy Group.
Visitors can follow the success of the campaign via RSS, Twitter and email on the site or via Story’s usual Twitter @StoryUK.
Mission CEO Iain Ferguson said, “I am delighted to see Story using their digital excellence to support such worthy causes. The ihave concept is a great way for people to give back in a difficult economy.”
