Red Mill steps up to the oche with Manley

14th January 2008

Red Mill Snack Foods has agreed a 12-month sponsorship deal with Peter ‘One Dart' Manley to help promote Mr. Porky - the UK's best selling pork scratching.

The agreement, which was devised by Big Communications, Red Mill Snack Foods lead creative agency, will see one of the world's top professional darts players step up to the oche in a specially-manufactured Mr. Porky pink shirt - complete with logo - at tournaments across the UK, Europe and US.

Peter Manley's pink shirt has already proved a big hit with darts fans since its first appearance at the Ladbrokes PDC World Championships at Alexandra Palace, securing Mr. Porky extensive national newspaper and TV coverage. Sky Sports' Helen Chamberlain is among those to have commented on the bold move by the 45 year-old, who reached the quarter finals at the Championships last month.

Says Sarah Nunn, Sales and Marketing Controller, at Red Mill Snack Foods: "Pork scratchings have long been considered the perfect accompaniment to darts and we thought Peter Manley was the perfect character to help us highlight this."

Mr. Porky is the country's leading savoury pork snack, selling around 20 million packs a year. Produced by Red Mill Snack Foods, it also has the honour of being the first pork scratching to travel to both the North and South Poles when it was selected as ‘an essential expedition snack' by explorer David Hempleman-Adams.

Adds Corrie Taylor, Account Director at Big Communications: "Peter Manley is just the type of character we needed to help bring the brand to life. He has already got off to a flying start, doing Mr. Porky proud at the Championships, and we look forward to following him and his pink shirt across the globe, during the remainder of 2008."
