Big and Bray Leino success at national ad awards

04th May 2007

The Mission Marketing Group plc ('themission®'), the national marketing communications and advertising group, announces that Big Communications, its Leicester based agency and Bray Leino, based in Bristol, came out winners at the Fresh advertising awards, in Manchester last month. The awards, sponsored by the industry's Campaign magazine recognise creative ingenuity and innovation in agencies across the country.

Big Communications' WKD ads were once again major winners including a rare double gold for the Hat Trick and Bath Time executions. The WKD television campaign success was complemented by wins in outdoor poster campaign, again for WKD, and in the "Idea That Never Made It" category, where Big were Gold winners for their Playboy TV mailer.

Winning copywriter Craig Buzzel commented: "I can't think of a campaign that has been as consistently and as heavily awarded as Big's WKD campaign over the last six years. And as the brand continues to grow, it shows that it's a campaign that not only wins awards, it sells too."

Big also had great success at the Roses - widely regarded as the industry's main national advertising awards show for agencies outside the capital - the agency was the big winner in the television category, picking up an unmatched four awards for their WKD commercials and campaign.

Bray Leino won seven national accolades at the Fresh awards including particular praise for its Spanish Oranges "Loaded with Juice" and Spanish Clementines "Nature's Sweets" campaigns on behalf of Foods from Spain, which received four Gold, one Silver and two bronze awards. The agency also received nominations for work it delivered for WRAP (The Waste & Resources Action Programme) and sustainable transport charity, Sustrans.

The Spanish Oranges campaign included 'Truck', the depiction of a single orange causing a pick-up truck to become unnaturally lopsided. The ad was dramatically shot on location in southern Spain and appeared across women's lifestyle publications and major supermarket magazines.

Richard Kramer, Bray Leino's creative director, said: "The campaign for Foods from Spain was a simple, single-minded idea, exquisitely executed. We took a straightforward insight - the juicier the fruit, the heavier it would be - and turned it into a compelling piece of visual communication.

"To be recognised by our peers for such creative excellence is hugely rewarding. And testament to the tenacity, ambition and of course talent, of the guys here."

As a result of its awards success, Bray Leino has been commissioned by the organisers of Fresh to develop an advertising campaign to promote the 2008 Fresh Awards.
